If you have animals, a pet first aid kit is an essential item to have in your household.
If you are one of those people who have yet to purchase a pet first aid kit, there is no need to shrink into the background, hoping no one will see you. We can help you! And, if you are sitting here reading this thinking “I purchased a pet first aid kit, so I have no worries”, you are not off the hook yet!
If you previously purchased a pet first aid kit, now is the time to go find it and dust it off. Don’t remember where you put it? Start looking for it now before you need it! And, once you find it, open it up to inspect the contents inside. Have the bandages started to disintegrate? Are any of the topical creams past their expiration date? Has that liquid antiseptic turned the most glorious shade of orange? It might be time to for you to purchase a new pet first aid kit as well!
You can purchase a ready-made pet first aid kit or you can put your own together. I often recommend putting your own kit together. By putting your own kit together you will know what is in your pet first aid kit because you assembled it. But, if putting a kit together is just not your cup of tea, no worries. There are many good pre-assembled pet first aid kits you can purchase.
Not all pet first aid kits are created equal, so if you purchase a ready-made kit, I caution you to really look at what the pet first aid kit contains. You do not want to be purchasing one that is nothing but glorified bandages! So, what should you look for in a pet first aid kit, you ask? Stay tuned for Part 2 and I’ll give you a list of recommended items for your kit!
I am guilty! I try to have dry food for emergency since I usually give him raw or cooked meat. But that’s about it… Look forward to Part 2 to see what I need to get for my baby!
Thanks for your input Hiromi! You are not alone! We all have to start somewhere, just take it one step at a time.
